The Center For Pure and Applied Mathematics is a multidisciplinary Organized Research Unit devoted to advancing research and training in mathematics. The Center administers grants, contracts and gift accounts for faculty members in Mathematics and other closely related departments on campus. It also provides research funds each year for graduate student researchers, postdocs and programmers.

Mission Statement

To provide leadership in mathematics research and education, nationally and internationally.

To foster research in pure and applied mathematics, and to promote the exchange of ideas among mathematicians, as well as between mathematicians and other scientists, engineers and educators.

To promote research in which mathematicians work jointly with members of other campus departments and institutions and with private industry.

To maintain an environment where mathematics students can learn about real-world problems and where students from other fields can learn to use mathematics more effectively.

To support diversity of students, faculty and staff.
